Meet the Inventor!
Gretchen McCormick is a proud Indiana native and an Indiana University Bloomington graduate with a Bachelors in Education. She further strengthen her knowledge and skills of understanding the differences in learning styles by teaching a year three (3rd grade) class at Melbourne Girls Grammar in Melbourne, Australia. However her awareness in early childhood development came when she was a counselor for a Summer Park Program where she coordinated field trips, educational demonstrations and activates for the local youth. These as well as other experiences pushed Gretchen to always see things “out-side-of-the-box” and to accept and understand that everyone learns differently. This philosophy inspired the idea for the Measure By Color Ruler™ a STEAM product to be utilized across curriculum – leveling the playing field – allowing for common ground – promoting confidence & understanding at any level.

Improve Learning Comprehension
Many students struggle with the abstract application of fractional measurements—and let’s face it, most of us do! Measure By Color™ makes it simple to visualize how each increment is laid out (1⁄16, 1⁄8, 1⁄4, 1⁄2, and 1-inch). This greatly strengthens comprehension.
Not Just for Education
This measuring tool is beneficial in other fields than just education. Measuring being an important part to any project think about the last time you repeatedly checked yourself or squinted at a traditional ruler before confidently marking/cutting on that line. Ultimately, apart from its value as a learning tool, Measure By Color Ruler™ increases the ease and speed of taking measurements.
Here are a few other professions and tasks that would benefit from the Measure By Color™ color-coded measuring tool:
Technical Drawing Engineering
Valerie Shears, Art Teacher
What a great invention! I use Math all the time with my students and these would be so wonderful to have. From making tessalations and Op art, to designing floor plans for their personal gallery spaces, these would come in so handy. Imagine how easy it would be to teach even my younger students drawing by the grid method or proportions of the body...let's face it, there is a lot of math involved in Art,and with STEAM I will be looking to be putting more emphasis on that relationship!
Jennifer Borel, Middle School Art Teacher
Although art teachers may naturally be drawn to this colorful ruler first, it’s a great fit for any classroom. Letting other teachers in on this secret will help foster working relationships and help better equip students in all classrooms in your school to learn to measure more effectively. I wholeheartedly recommend it!
Joseph Groover, HS Art Teacher
I have used Measure By Color in the classroom. This tool proved to give an exceptional visual picture of measurements. After a brief introduction of the ruler and a refresher on measurements this ruler became the teacher. It was always the go to ruler for my students. The speed and accuracy that was achieved was incredible, especially when used to grid art projects. It defiantly changed the dynamics of time management in my classroom!
